Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 12 years, 8 months AGO
Sierra Lile's design will grace more than 2,000 T-shirts distributed to participants in this year's Spring Dash, a 5-mile run to benefit United Way of Kootenai County.
The Coeur d'Alene High School senior's design was selected from several hundred pieces of artwork submitted to the annual Spring Dash T-shirt contest.
In its 31st year, the Spring Dash is also open to walkers and features a Tot-trot event.
Lile had the opportunity to visit local T-shirt company, Saturday Night, Inc., to see the shirt production process from start to finish.
"Touring the facility and working with the graphic artist gave me a chance to try out what might be my future career," Lile said.
The signature sponsor of the event, Bank of America, has awarded Lile with a $100 check as her prize.
Coeur d'Alene High School art teacher Terry Leonard said, "Sierra is very artistic, always going beyond her assignments because she loves art and plans to use art in her future."
Leonard has had 11 students win the Spring Dash Design Contest through the years. The designs are all displayed in her classroom.
"Sierra was glowing when she found out she was the winner," Leonard said.
Lile will be attending University of Idaho in the fall as an advertising major, and hopes to also minor in studio art. "I took art all through middle school and two years at CHS," says Lile. "I don't recall a time that I wasn't involved in art."
The Spring Dash takes place Sunday, and is a qualifying race for Bloomsday's second-seed starting area.
Due to construction of McEuen Park, the race registration and packet pickup has been moved from the Coeur Mining Building to the Bank of America Building at 401 E. Front Ave. in Coeur d'Alene. Participants must access the bank's rear entrance from the Fifth Street alleyway.
The Tot Trot is at 9 a.m. wheelchair division begins at 9:30 a.m. and the main event starts at 10 a.m.
All proceeds will be donated to the United Way of Kootenai County. Race entries are available at active.com and www.KootenaiUnitedWay.org and active.com.
