Great Cloth Diaper Change is Saturday

The Great Cloth Diaper Change is taking place again Saturday in Coeur d'Alene.

Sponsored by Mother's Haven, a retail shop and support center for new parents, the diaper changing event will be held at 10 a.m. at the Salvation Army Kroc Center, 1765 W. Golf Course Road.

In its third year, with more than 256 sites in 15 countries, the event will attempt to break last year's Guinness World Record of 8,251 cloth diapers changed around the world at one time.

"Each year billions of disposable diapers enter landfills where it takes hundreds of years for them to decompose, if ever," said Heather McNamara, executive director of the Real Diaper Association. "Building off the success of last year's event with 189 qualifying locations in 11 countries, we hope to show the entire world that cloth diapers are a real option for today's modern families, particularly catching the eye of expecting and new parents who may be seeking more planet-friendly and affordable alternatives to disposable diapers."

In addition to the Great Cloth Diaper Change world-recording setting activity, there will also be gift bags filled with parent and baby goodies handed out to the first 50 who register and entertainment provided by Stepping Tones Music. Directly following the change, Mother's Haven located at 2112 N. Government Way will host a post change party with food, beverages and hundreds of dollars in door prizes as well as a 2-hour cloth diaper sale.
