John “Jack” William Hilleboe, M.D., passed away on April 10, 2013, after a long battle with prostate cancer.

Jack was born in Sioux City, Iowa, to Strand and Edith Hilleboe on May 26, 1939. He spent most of his youth in Billings and graduated from Billings Senior High School. He then went on to graduate from the University of Washington where he also attended medical school.

Jack did his rotating internship at Philadelphia General Hospital where he met his wife, Lynne. They married on Sept. 10, 1966, and moved to Iowa City where Jack did a year of general surgery. He went on to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis to do his four-year orthopedic residency. Upon completion he entered the Air Force and spent eight months in Wichita, Kan., and three years in Wiesbaden, Germany, returning stateside and settling down in Kalispell where he practiced orthopedics for 28 years at Flathead Valley Orthopedic Clinic.

Jack loved the outdoors and was passionate about fishing, hunting and skiing. He also enjoyed traveling, playing golf with good friends and family, and leaving “to do” lists for his boys.

The practice of medicine was a never-ending commitment to excel and serve the people of Montana, whom he loved. He was well respected by his patients, colleagues, staff, friends and family.

Jack is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lynne; sons, Todd and Tami, Scott and Debra, Eric and Cassie; four grandchildren, Paige, Presley, Kate and Jack; brother, Jim; and sister, Susan Knox and Seth.

A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at The Rack Shack on Aug. 7 (at a time to be determined).

In lieu of gifts and flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charity of your choice.
