An unexpected winter storm Sunday afternoon dumped over four inches of snow in parts of Sanders County. There were a few reports of vehicles sliding on slushy roads but no serious accidents or injuries were reported.

The exceptionally heavy, wet snow clung to just about everything it touched including fences, barbwire and electrical lines. No outages were reported as snow could be seen falling from trees and power lines well into the afternoon on Monday. By late afternoon most of the snow had melted.

According to Montana Department of Transportation Supervisor John Holland, the amount of snow took two plows about seven hours to clear. He reported hearing about one accident with a vehicle bumping into a guardrail but said it was a very minor incident with no injuries or damage to the vehicle..

Holland did say, “that was some of the heaviest snow I’ve seen this winter. It did make a real slushy mess.”

As of Monday evening, the forecast according to the National Weather Service website was predicting clearer skies and warmer temperatures reaching into the low 60s for Sanders County.
