Despite outhitting Corvallis 7-to-5, the Libby softball team failed to score in a home match-up Saturday, losing to the Lady Blue Devils 2-0, partly because of two errors committed by the Lady Loggers.

Sophomore pitcher Hannah England went the full seven innings, fanning 10 batters and allowing only one earned run.

A frustrated England wanted to forget the loss.

“We just need to let losses go,” she said. “We have conference games coming up that mean a lot more than this one.”

For Corvallis, it was the first time its fielders played well, and – unsurprisingly – the first win of the season.

“That’s the best our defense has played all year,” said Corvallis Head Coach Rich Borden. “We’ve had trouble making plays. We’ve come a long way, though.”

Libby, while batting into an invigorated defense, still notched seven hits. Unfortunately for the team, several runners were stranded in scoring position.

Senior designated hitter Rebecca Kyriss was on base as innings ended scoreless for the Lady Loggers.

Head Coach Dean Thompson was terse after the game.

“If you don’t hit the ball, you can’t win,” he said.

The Blue Devils scored their first run when junior centerfielder Kelsey Klin fired a ball to Dayln Germany at home plate just a hair too late.

The Lady Loggers travel to the Frenchtown Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

In other softball action, Troy fell twice to an offensive powerhouse in Loyola-Sacred Heart.

The Heart Breakers spared no mercy, thumping the Lady Trojans 19-4 and 14-3.

In the second game of the double-header, Loyola scored all 14 runs in the second inning.
