Joseph Myron “Bobo” Benjamin was born on Aug. 7, 1937, to Edgar and Alma Benjamin. He weighed only 3 pounds. He joined his brother, Ed and sister Mary Lou. Later another brother Alley and sister Punkie joined the family.

Joe lived his entire life in Coeur d’Alene. He passed away April 22, 2013, at the same address where he was born. He worked at Kaiser Aluminum for 28 years as a steel worker in the box shop and then the re-mill department.

Joe served his country by joining the National Guard. He worked his way up to Master Sargent. He was a very proud American and loved serving his country.

The greatest joy in Joe’s life was his family including his pets. He enjoyed camping, especially building fires and spending time outdoors in any activity. Weekends were often spent driving around with the family in the station wagon exploring.

Joe never met a stranger and loved it when someone would stop by for a visit. He always had a cold drink or cup of coffee to make his guests feel welcome. He would smile warmly and tell jokes and colorful stories.

Besides his own children Joe was a “Dad” to anyone and everyone, he would give them the shirt off his back.

Joe loved old airplanes, war movies and music. He was passionate about watching shows that made him think or that he could learn from, always giving him something new to discuss with anyone willing to listening.

Joe is survived by his wife, Joyce; sons, Mike and Eric; daughters, Dorrie, Lisa and Joanna; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother Ally; sister Punkie; sister-in-law Betty; and many family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ed, sister Mary Lou and granddaughter Jenna.
