COEUR d'ALENE - A California woman on Wednesday accepted a plea deal in a bizarre case in which she was at one point charged with kidnapping a Coeur d'Alene girl and transporting her to California for her teenage son.

Lillie Alvarado, 45, of Bakersfield, entered a guilty plea during her arraignment in 1st District Court to felony child custody interference, which has a maximum prison term of five years.

Coeur d'Alene police said Alvarado took a train to Spokane in early March and then made her way to Coeur d'Alene in a rental car to pick up 14-year-old Jaidyn D. Bendocchi at her home.

Alvarado and Bendocchi traveled back to Spokane and caught a train to Bakersfield where Bendocchi was later located by authorities.

Police found out Alvarado had delivered Bendocchi at the request of her son, who was 15. He had been in contact with Bendocchi online and the teens planned to start a relationship. The son has said Bendocchi had been having trouble at home and was unhappy.

Bendocchi was placed in protective custody by authorities and returned to North Idaho.

Alvarado's sentencing is scheduled for June 14 in front of District Court Judge Benjamin Simpson.

She originally had been charged with second-degree kidnapping, which has a 25-year maximum prison term.

As part of the plea deal, the Kootenai County prosecutor's office has agreed to recommend a suspended prison term, local jail time, and supervised probation.

Alvarado was booked into Kootenai County jail on April 5. Simpson ordered Wednesday that she be released until sentencing.
