CSI takes two from Cardinals, clinches first SWAC title

TWIN FALLS - Patti Ferguson hit a two-run home run in the second inning of the first game and Brandi Hall threw a one-hitter in the second game as the Southern Idaho Golden Eagles swept the North Idaho Cardinal softball team 9-1 and 8-0 on Saturday to clinch its first Scenic West Athletic Conference championship.
CSI (45-9, 39-5 SWAC) will host the Region 18 tournament May 8-11.
Kelsey LaVaute had an RBI single to score Kellsi Parson in the third inning of the first game for NIC (18-32, 12-27), which travels to Colorado Northwestern for doubleheaders Friday and Saturday to conclude the regular season.
In the second game, Shanika Sawyer doubled leading off the fifth inning for the Cardinals' only hit.
CSI took all eight meetings from NIC in SWAC play.
