PREP BASEBALL: Lakeland remains unbeaten in 4A IEL

RATHDRUM - Troy Carr went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs scored in the first game, then had a two-run double in the second game as the Lakeland Hawks swept the Sandpoint Bulldogs 10-0 and 12-2 in a 4A Inland Empire League doubleheader on the day Gorton Field was officially dedicated in memory of the late Terry Gorton, longtime Lakeland coach.

"Troy was really seeing the ball well in the first game," Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury said. "It was a good day all around for us today."

James Prockish went 2 for 3 with a solo home run in the fourth inning of the first game for Lakeland (14-3, 6-0 4A IEL), which travels to Moscow on Tuesday for a doubleheader.

With a win, Lakeland will clinch the league title and host the opening round of the 4A Region 1 tournament starting next Saturday.

Justin Puryear and Nate Stangel hit sacrifice flies in the third inning of the second game for Sandpoint (0-14, 0-6), which hosts Priest River on Tuesday.

POST FALLS - Austin Lake pitched a complete game two-hitter in the first game for the visiting Timberwolves, and Derek Bumgarner hit a three-run double in the fifth inning of the second game for the Trojans as the schools split a 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader.

Ethan Brandt singled to score Mitch Bevacqua to tie the game in the seventh inning of the opener for Lake City, which then took the lead on a pair of bases-loaded walks.

Ryan Hunt had two hits and two runs scored in the second game for Post Falls (6-10, 2-6 5A IEL), which travels to Lewiston for a doubleheader on Tuesday.

"In that first game, both pitchers threw a great game, but we just couldn't get a clutch hit," Post Falls coach Dustin Frank said. "Austin threw a lot of strikes and didn't give us any free bases and Hunt threw a really good game. I was excited about how the kids responded in the second game and hopefully we can get some momentum going into Tuesday."

Lake City (7-11, 4-6) hosts Coeur d'Alene on Tuesday.

OSBURN - Trevor Masterson had four hits and five RBIs in the first game and Austin Allen went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored as the visiting Tigers swept the Wildcats in an Intermountain League doubleheader at Morehouse Field.

Hunter Tonkin went 2 for 4 with four RBIs in the first game for Timberlake (11-6, 6-1 IML), which hosts Priest River on Thursday.

"In the first game, Timberlake really hit the ball well," Kellogg-Wallace coach Paul Elston said. "In the second game, we hurt ourselves with our errors (8) and you can't give a team like Timberlake that many extra chances."

Casey Jerome had two RBIs in the second game for Kellogg-Wallace (0-13, 0-9), which travels to St. Maries on Tuesday for a nonleague doubleheader.

GRANGEVILLE - Isaac Walters went 2 for 2 with two RBIs, including the go-ahead single in the first game as the visiting Lumberjacks swept the Bulldogs in a Central Idaho League doubleheader.

Jordan Stapleton singled leading off the sixth in the second game and came around to score on an error for St. Maries (11-12, 10-1 CIL), which hosts Kellogg-Wallace in a nonleague doubleheader on Tuesday starting at 2 p.m. at City Park.

"It was a great day for us considering we were on the bus at 6 a.m.," St. Maries coach Craig Tefft said. "The kids did an incredible job of finding a way to win. It was a great day to be a Lumberjack."

Grangeville (13-4, 5-2) travels to St. Maries next Saturday to conclude the regular season.
