COEUR d'ALENE - Dane Dugan, manager of the Kootenai County Fairgrounds, said his newest event, The North Idaho Sportsman's Expo RV & Boat Show, was a success.

"We had about 2,500 to 3,000 people come through on Saturday," he said. "In total, we will probably finish with just over 5,000 people."

Given the cooler weather, Dugan said it was pretty good showing for a first-year event. The event drew 136 vendors from all over the region offering a variety of outdoor-related goods and services.

"We had a lot of diversity in the talent pool this year, and that was our intention," he said. "We didn't want just another RV show, we wanted an experience for the whole family, and we are pleased with the way it turned out."

Many of the vendors offered more of a hands-on experience for people interested in learning more about outdoor sports opportunities.

Reuben Thil, 10, tried his hand at the archery demonstration, where he learned to shoot a compound bow.

"This is a lot of fun," he said, adding he came to the show with his family, while visiting from Troy.

Seth Burrill, owner of Anglers Express, has new a tackle shop near Cabela's in Post Falls. He set up a fishing pond that had a steady stream of young anglers lining up to catch a trout.

"It kind of comes in waves," he said. "You'll get one or two people here and there and then all of sudden there are 10 people lined up."

Sean West from Captured Expressions taxidermy shop had a booth in the main pavilion. He said it was good event for its first year.

"Weather may have kept a few people away, but in all there seemed to be a pretty good turnout," he said.

Dugan said the staff was going to wrap up the sportsman's show this week and get busy with their next big event, Bikes, Brews & BBQs.
