MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake High School senior Kayla Grigg is helping raise awareness for juvenile diabetes.
As part of her senior project, Grigg is organizing a golf scramble at Moses Pointe with all the proceeds given to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
Grigg was inspired to take on the daunting task of organizing Scramble for the Cure by one of her close friends who suffers from diabetes and previously put on the event for her senior project.
The goal of the event is to provide a fun and informative environment to raise awareness of diabetes and how it effects friends and family. Grigg hopes to raise at least $3000 to donate to the JDRF.
Grigg, who has family with the disease, is determined to do her part in the effort to find a cure for diabetes.
The day won't just be a traditional round of golf. Grigg plans on providing facts about diabetes at each hole and fun challenges, such as hitting a shot out of a pool or using a marshmallow for the team's first show.
"I really wanted to make something that's going to pop and stand out to people," Grigg said.
The golf scramble is scheduled for August 25 and registration begins at 12:30 p.m. Registration costs $220 for a four-person team. Forms can be found at Moses Pointe and the Moses Lake Golf Club.
A dinner and silent auction will be held after the golf. For more information email Grigg at scramble4acure@gmail.com
