ROSE LAKE - Rose Lake School is turning 100, and everyone's invited to the party.

A 50-year class reunion, a picnic-style lunch and a huge birthday cake are all part of the celebration, taking place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the school.

Rose Lake School was built around 1914. It served as a school until the late 1980s and now is a community center, museum and library operated by volunteers.

"We're all dedicated," said Gale Chatfield, board member of the Rose Lake Historical Society. "It's kind of like our baby."

Chatfield said the school hosts an annual event, but this one is more of a celebration because of the building's milestone.

The lunch is $8 and will include homemade goodies such as fried chicken, potato salad, baked beans, Jell-O salad and rolls. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Rose Lake Historical Society "just for maintenance and survival," Chatfield said. Any other donations will be accepted.

As well as a 50-year class reunion, the centennial celebration welcomes all Rose Lake School alumni from any year.

Rose Lake School is located at 14917 S. Queen, just south of Rose Lake and off Highway 3. It is on the National Register of Historic Places.
