POST FALLS - Betty Ann Henderson on Monday said she plans to seek a second term on the Post Falls City Council during the Nov. 5 election.

Henderson was elected to the council four years ago when she defeated incumbent Joe Bodman.

"Many say that some people never slow down even when they can," the 81-year-old Henderson said. "I am one of those persons.

"This would be my second and last term."

Henderson said she is seeking re-election because she wants to continue to apply her conservative values toward issues that come before the council.

"I will continue to represent the concerns of my constituents to the best of my ability and will never vote a certain way because someone expects me to or perhaps they are a friend," Henderson said.

Henderson cited a large annexation request that she voted against despite one of the property owners being a friend of her husband and state legislator Frank Henderson.

"The project was well-planned and well-located, but the city already had 3,000 vacant lots," she said.

Henderson voted for a tax increase once during her four years.

"And that was so we could pay police officers a little more," she said. "I'm very proud of my conservative viewpoint."

Henderson said this will be a non-partisan election and she intends to keep it that way.

"I do not seek endorsement by any political party our group," she said. "The only endorsement I want is that of individual voters."

Henderson moved to Post Falls seven years ago after retiring as a Realtor. She has been involved with the chamber of commerce, delivering the U.S. Constitution to local high school students and the senior center's Meals on Wheels program.
