Nasewytewa sentenced to one year in youth home
Bryce Gray | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 11 years, 5 months AGO
POLSON – Isaiah Nasewytewa, the 11-year-old St. Ignatius boy who had been held on $500,000 bail earlier this year, was recently sentenced to one year in a youth home after being officially declared a “delinquent youth.”
The July 25 ruling handed down in Lake County District Court by Judge Kim Christopher will separate Nasewytewa from Dorinda Buck, his grandmother and legal guardian. Buck had fought hard to maintain custody of Nasewytewa throughout his legal proceedings of the past few months. Nasewytewa had been living with Buck since receiving court-ordered psychiatric evaluations in May.
On June 6, Nasewytewa admitted to two amended misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct. Court documents state that the youth will be “placed on formal probation with standard conditions for one year with placement at the Lake County Youth Guidance Home.”
Nasewytewa was also ordered to continue his participation in individual and family counseling, and mental health appointments.
Earlier felony charges of burglary that had faced Nasewytewa were dropped as part of the plea deal he reached in June.
