'Friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era'

Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre's production of Dolly Parton's "9 to 5: The Musical" will debut next week at the Schuler Performing Arts Center on the North Idaho College campus.

The show opens on Aug. 15 at 7:30 p.m.

"This is going to be such a fun show, a great way to end the summer season. The audience will be reminded of life in the 1970s before computers and cell phones and the great music that Dolly Parton wrote for the movie and the musical," said Roger Welch, the theater company's artistic director.

Pushed to the boiling point by their boss, three female co-workers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot. They conspire to take control of their company and learn there's nothing they can't do - even in a man's world. Set in the late 1970s, "9 to 5: The Musical" is a story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era. It is based on the 1980 hit movie of the same name.

Dolly Parton wrote the music and lyrics, while Patricia Resnick wrote the book. Noted for its successful transformation from a movie to a musical, "9 to 5: The Musical" made its Broadway debut in 2009 and received four Tony nominations, including Best Original Score and Best Choreography.

"9 to 5: The Musical" runs Aug. 15-18, 7:30 p.m.; Aug. 18, 2 p.m.; Aug. 22-24, 7:30 p.m. and Aug. 25, 2 p.m., at the Schuler Performing Arts Center on the campus of North Idaho College.
