A pair of Kalispell mothers have pleaded not guilty to felony charges after allegedly driving drunk with children in their vehicles just two days apart.
Sharon Fronapfel, 43, is charged with felony criminal child endangerment and misdemeanor driving under the influence as a result of a July 19 incident.
A court document states that a Kalispell police officer witnessed a vehicle on Idaho Street driving without any lights on, and that when he approached the driver she had bloodshot, glossy eyes and slurred speech. She was subsequently identified as Fronapfel, the document states.
Fronapfel allegedly admitted having had five beers at home before driving. Her 3-year-old daughter was in the vehicle with her.
She allegedly failed field sobriety and breath alcohol tests.
If convicted of both charges, Fronapfel faces between 24 hours and six months in the Flathead County Detention Center, up to 10 years in prison and a fine of between $300 and $51,000. She originally was jailed with bond set at $15,000, but a judge later ordered her release.
The next hearing in Fronapfel’s case is set for Aug. 28.
Emily Mohler, 35, is charged with felony criminal child endangerment after a July 21 incident.
A court document states a Kalispell police officer witnessed a vehicle drifting into different lanes and straddling divider lines, and that when he approached the driver she had bloodshot and glassy eyes and slurred speech. She allegedly admitted having been drinking prior to failing field sobriety and breath alcohol tests.
Mohler’s 9- and 11-year-old children were in the vehicle with her.
If convicted, Mohler faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000. She initially was incarcerated in the jail with bond set at $20,000, but a judge later ordered her release.
