MOSES LAKE - A summer's worth of effort will be on display this week at the Grant County Fair, Aug. 13 through 17.

Country music stars Pam Tillis and Joe Nichols will be the featured musicians. Nichols, who has produced six albums since 2003, will perform at 8 p.m. Aug. 16 on the Brian Miller stage, the main fairgrounds stage. Tillis, who has been performing for about three decades and with six No. 1 hits, will be on stage at 8 p.m. Aug. 17 on the Brian Miller stage.

Participants will be flooding the fairgrounds Monday, entering animals, art and crafts, food and floral arrangements; volunteers from community organizations will be stocking the food booths.

The action starts bright and early Tuesday morning, at 8 a.m. when all 4-H, FFA and open class livestock exhibitors meet in Barn No. 27. Equine competition begins at 8 a.m. with horse showmanship, starting with senior 4-H and FFA competition and continuing all day.

Rabbit and poultry competition also begins at 8 a.m. in Barn No. 29, and continues throughout the morning. Carcass judging is at 8:30 a.m.

Dog competition begins with a meeting of all participants at 9 a.m. at the 4-H building. Sheep competition starts at 10 a.m.

Dog fitting and showing competition begins at 10 a.m. in the 4-H building. Children are invited to see how much they can pull on a pedal tractor; the tractors take off at 11:30 a.m. and four times a day all week. Kids also are invited to test their skills decorating sawhorses, at noon next to the 4-H building.

Goat competition begins at 1 p.m. The small animal round robin fitting and showing, followed by the small animal awards, will be at 6 p.m.

Wednesday activities start before the fairgrounds open, with breakfast for 4-H and FFA competitors at 6 a.m. in building No. 1. Horse competition begins at 8 a.m., along with market class competition for sheep, steers, goats and pigs. Market classes continue all day.

Dairy class fitting and showing begins at 8:30 a.m. Dog classes begin at 10 a.m. at the 4-H building. A number of cars will come to a crashing end at the demolition derby, with the gates opening at 3:30 p.m. Time trials will be at 6:30 p.m. and the derby starts at 7:30 p.m.

Fitting and showing competition is scheduled for Thursday, beginning at 8 a.m. The 4-H food preparation competition will be at 10 a.m. in the 4-H building. The 4-H dog tricks and costume contest is at 4 p.m.

The Moses Lake Roundup kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at the rodeo grounds. It's a classic rodeo, with events including bareback and saddle bronc riding, bull riding, barrel racing, steer wrestling and breakaway roping. Competition continues Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. each night.

The annual market sale of 4-H and FFA livestock begins at 9:30 a.m. Friday and continues until the last animal is sold.

A full slate of 4-H competition is scheduled for Saturday, beginning at 9:30 a.m., including food preparation and the fashion review. The llama show begins at 10 a.m., along with the open class horse show. Awards for 4-H livestock competition will be announced at noon at the 4-H building.
