John A. Parodi, 94, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, at his home in Whitefish.
John was born June 3, 1919, in Haverhill, Mass., the second son of Natale L. and Lucie Hill Parodi.
John graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, then earned his Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. While there, he met Janet Hudson, and they were married in 1948. He went to work for the General Electric Co., and they eventually settled in Cleveland, where they raised three daughters.
After nearly 35 years with GE, John retired, and Janet and he moved to Missoula to be closer to family. In retirement, he enjoyed gardening, bread making, walking, birdwatching and programming his computers.
After Janet passed away in 2008, he relocated to Great Falls, where he especially enjoyed walking to Schulte’s for morning coffee with the regulars and weekly dinners with his extended family.
John is survived by his daughters, Jean Parodi of Spokane, Margaret Parodi of Bigfork and Elizabeth Van Koten and Darrel of Whitefish; grandchildren, Brian Van Koten and Jill DeCoursey of Santa Monica, Calif., and Kimberly Van Koten of Portland; and niece, Lauren Valyou, and Bob of Haverhill.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet; and his brother, Nat Parodi.
