The Hockaday Museum of Art offers several adult workshops this fall.
For more information about any of the classes, stop by the museum at 302 Second Ave. E., Kalispell; call 755-5268; or visit www.hockadaymuseum.org.
Following is a list of available classes:
Susan Diehl teaches landscape painting from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 9, 10 and 11.
Diehl places an emphasis on developing correct concepts and skills in order to organize and simplify large landscape masses into an exciting design. Natural laws of light, values, color in perspective, edges, creating emphasis and movement through the painting are explored with the end goal that “art is more than imitation.”
The first day begins in the classroom with a lecture, demo and exercises to prepare for the move outdoors for the remainder of the time. This workshop is designed for beginning to intermediate oil painters.
A supply list is available on the museum’s website or at the Hockaday. The workshop costs $330 for museum members, or $365 for nonmembers.
Ron Ukrainetz teaches Engraving on Clayboard: A Study in Contrasts from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 28 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 29.
Engraving can be used to create the range of values from black to white and all shades of gray in between. Working with assorted engraving tools, each student is given group and individual instruction in the techniques used to create stunning black-and-white images on Claybord Black.
This knowledge can be adapted for use in any other media to create a more dramatic piece of art. All tools and materials are included in the cost of the workshop.
The cost is $165 for museum members, or $180 for nonmembers.
Julie Wulf teaches silk painting from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 9.
Use silk as the canvas and fabric dyes as the paint to create ready-to-frame art. Students will be guided through the process of stretching fabric, applying resist, controlling dye, mixing colors and creating special effects.
For their design idea, students are asked to bring a drawing or photograph featuring simple subjects such as flowers, birds or fish. Tools and materials are included in the cost of the workshop.
Cost is $60 for museum members, or $70 for nonmembers. Participants should bring a sack lunch.
