The trees in two Coeur d'Alene neighborhoods have generated awards for their subdivisions.

The Coeur d'Alene Place Homeowners Association and Oak Crest Park have been selected to receive Landscape of Excellence awards from Community Canopy, a tree care partnership of the cities of Coeur d'Alene, Hayden, Post Falls, Spokane and the Spokane County Conservation District with the assistance of the University of Idaho Extension and Washington State University Extension.

The awards are in recognition of the outstanding use and care of trees within their landscapes. The Coeur d'Alene Place subdivision is located to the west of Ramsey Road and Dalton Avenue, and Oak Crest Park is located on the southwest corner of Ramsey and Dalton.

Community Canopy will recognize the common areas in Coeur d'Alene Place for having a large number of properly planted trees, providing adequate water, providing turf free zones around trees and more. Landscape workers at each site have taken extra care to avoid wounding trees with landscape maintenance equipment.

Recognition will be given to Oak Crest Park for having large trees, a diversity of species, and because their wide landscape area along Ramsey Road is effective screening that is aesthetically pleasing while buffering road noise.

The awards will be presented Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the City of Coeur d'Alene Parks and Recreation Commission meeting in the Community Room of the Coeur d'Alene Public Library, 701 Front Ave.

Community Canopy members work together toward the goal of healthy and sustainable community forests that provide maximum environmental and visual benefits.
