MOSES LAKE - The Grant County Fairgrounds was teeming with activity Monday evening as dozens of vendors and exhibitors rushed to put the finishing touches on their various booths and displays.

But the hustle and bustle is nothing compared to what the first day of the 2013 Grant County Fair will bring, Herb Reynolds, of the Ephrata Lions, said.

Reynolds said Tuesday is free entry day, and hundreds of Basin residents are expected to take advantage of the deal. Grant County PUD is hosting free entry day.

"You'll see a lot of families the first day," he said. "They want to bring the kids and save money."

Reynolds said money saved on admission usually ends up getting spent at one of the fair's many food booths. As a result, his group is anticipating moving a lot of inventory during the first day, he said.

"It's free entry day, and when it's free entry day, everything is usually sold out," Reynolds said.

The Ephrata Lions has had a booth at the Grant County Fair since the late 1960s. People mostly seem to come for the burgers, he said.

"We also have a special ice machine built in the 1900s, so a lot of people like to come get their drinks here too because the ice is like shaved ice," Reynolds said.

Reynolds said club members cleaned up the booth last week, but came on Monday to do a run through with the food.

The Basin Community Theatre also had volunteers show up Monday to prepare their food booth for the first-day rush. Kyle Noyes said this is the second year the group has been at the Grant County Fair.

"I'm hoping we'll be really busy the first day," he said. Noyes said the group added some new items to their menu that should be a big hit with fair goers.

"We have deep-fried Oreos and S'mores this year," Noyes said.

The Grant County Fair continues through Saturday. Adult admission to the fair is $7, according to the Grant County Fairgrounds website.

Students and senior citizens 62 and older get in for $5. Children ages 8 to 12 get in for $2 and children 7 and have free admission.

Family tickets, which include two adults and three children, are $18.

Senior citizens can get in to the fair for $3 on Wednesday.
