COEUR d'ALENE - Barbara Irvine may be retired, but she's not slowing down.
Not when it comes to painting and teaching others her love of art.
Irvine recently opened the Art de Vine Gallery at 1506 Northwest Blvd. in Coeur d'Alene. She has about 200 paintings - mostly watercolor, but some oil - for sale.
Her main passion is landscapes.
"They brought a lot of joy to me, and I'd love to release them to people," the 77-year-old said.
Irvine will hold a gallery grand opening on Saturday and Sunday. It will be 1 to 5 p.m. both days.
There will be music, art lectures and painting demonstrations. Attendees will be given a free print. There is no admission.
Irvine's work features scenes along the California coast, in the Coeur d'Alene area and other places.
"This is my retirement; it's wonderful to have so much to do," she said with a smile. "I paint for the glory of God. Everything I do is to honor the Lord I love."
Irvine moved to Post Falls two years ago to be closer to family. She was a college art teacher for more than 50 years in California, including at the University of Southern California, Sonoma State University and the College of Marin.
She also formerly owned the Novato Art Center in Novato, Calif.
"I've had a desire to re-open a gallery," she said.
Most of Irvine's framed artwork costs in the $100 to $300 range.
"I like to have my artwork affordable," she said. "It's not costly, but showable."
Irvine also offers art classes for both teens and adults. One four-week class costs $100; two four-week classes $150.
The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Information: 446-9876
