COEUR d'ALENE - Jared Festner said Friday he is running for Coeur d'Alene City Council.

It's the first attempt at public office for the Houston, Texas, native, who has lived in Coeur d'Alene for three years. He is seeking seat 2.

Festner, 35, is in his final year at North Idaho College pursuing an information technology degree. He is married, has two children, and coaches his son's soccer team.

He said Friday he would have favored a public vote on McEuen Park and would not have favored the anti-discrimination ordinance the City Council recently adopted.

He hasn't yet appointed a treasurer.

Amy Evans is also seeking seat 2.

The official filing period for declaration of candidacy for city elections is from Aug. 26 to Sept. 6. Three council seats and the mayor's seat are up for election. Kiki Miller, is seeking seat 6, and Woody McEvers and Sharon Hebert are running for seat 4. Amber Copeland is running as well, but has not declared for which seat.

Joe Kunka, Jim Brannon, Mary Souza and Steve Widmyer have declared they are running for mayor.
