Golf: Kalispell's Lindholm wins state Mid-Am championship

Kalispell’s Logan Lindholm became the first northwest Montana golfer to win the Montana State Mid-Amateur championship on Saturday, shooting a round of 74 to secure an eight-stroke victory at Buffalo Hill Golf Club.
Lindholm fell off his pace from the first two rounds, shooting over par for the first time. His 2-over round was still plenty to secure a commanding victory, finishing as the only golfer under par for the tournament.
“It was a struggle, but I made it through, got it done,” Lindholm said.
“It was a little nerve-wracking. Anything can happen out there, I’m capable of shooting just about anything. I wanted to win this. There was a lot of pressure. I’m glad I got the win.”
Lewistown’s Christoph McConnell finished in a distant second, his last round with a 1-over 73. He hit 216 in three rounds to finish even par for the tournament, eight shots back of Lindholm. McConnell also finished second at the state amateur championship this year in Helena.
Whitefish’s Shawn Tucker shot an even par final round to finish 1-over in third place.
Defending champion Spencer Williams of Great Falls had a strong final round, closing Saturday at 1-under to finish at 2-over for the week in fourth place. He was one of just three golfers to go under par in the final round.
Kalispell’s John Cole finished tied for fifth place at 3-over with Great Falls’ Ross Bartell. Both men were 2-over on Saturday after entering the final round tied for fourth.
In addition to the championship print, Lindholm also won the Dick Pitman award for low round thanks to his 7-under-par first round.
Lindholm and Doni Walter (eighth place, 5-over 221) were awarded the Gene Cook Cup for low pair from the same club, which stays at Buffalo Hill.
Kalispell’s Earl Rife (seventh place, 4-over 220) won the Joe Tomes trophy for low score for a golfer age 50 or older.
