LaVern B. Hill, 92

LaVern B. Hill, 92, of Coeur d’Alene, passed away Aug. 16, 2013, in Coeur d’Alene. She was born Sept. 8, 1920, in Nome, N.D., to William and Stella Gjesvold, the third of four children.

She grew up and graduated from Wildrose High School in Wildrose, N.D. LaVern then went on to business college in Fargo, N.D., getting her degree. She then had the opportunity of a lifetime working for Senator Bill Langer from North Dakota in Washington, D.C., for a number of years. From there she moved to Texas where she worked in both Houston and Dallas for many years for a real estate mortgage company.

In 1971 LaVern moved to Seattle where she met and married the love of her life, Clinton Hill, until he passed away in June 1993. During her time in Seattle she owned and operated a very successful gift and card shop. After her husband’s passing she moved to Coeur d’Alene to be closer to her sister, Doris Ouren, living at Fairwinds, By The Lake assisted living and finally Lacrosse. LaVern was always fun loving with a great smile, she could light up the room with her piano playing and singing.

She was preceded in death by her Mother and Father; brother Gordy; her husband, Clinton; nephew Bruce Gjesvold and brother-in-law Harry Ouren.

LaVern is survived by her sister, Doris Ouren of Coeur d’Alene; her brother, Wallace Gjesvold of Glendive, Mont.; niece Sandy Hauf and her husband Chuck of Houston, Texas; nephew Blair Gjesvold and his wife Cheryl of Montana; nephew Ron Ouren and his wife Karen of Coeur d’Alene; seven great-nephews and nieces; and 11 great-great-nephews and nieces.

Viewing will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at Riverview Cemetery with memorial services to follow at 11 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel.
