MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake 14-year-old Chiefs dropped their first game at the Babe Ruth World Series losing to Bryant, Ark. 12-0 Sunday night.

A six-run third inning broke the game open for Bryant and Moses Lake was unable to rally. The game ended after five innings because of the 10-run rule in little league.

Head coach Pete Doumit didn’t want to make any excuses, but pointed out that the team from Bryant had prior World Series experience and had already played on Saturday.

“That’s an advantage,” he said. “Our kids came out... this is the first World Series experience these guys have had. It was in front of more people that they’ve ever played in front of.”

Moses Lake starter Deven Bishop was roughed up and allowed eight runs in only three innings of work. However, only four of the runs were earned.

Doumit thought his team struggled with the pressure of playing in their first World Series, which led to five errors.

“One of the things that I’ve tried to talk to them a lot about is to slow the game down,” he said. “Take your time and slow the game down and they rushed.”

Bryant scored one run each in the first and second innings before exploding for six runs in the third.

Catcher Garret Meisenheimer took a Bishop pitch deep to left field for a two run blast to kickstart Bryant’s offense. Austin Kelly added a RBI double and Aaron Orender hit a bases clearing triple that capped off the six-run third.

Bishop was relieved by Kamryn Cerrillo to start the fourth inning.

Bryant followed its six-run third by adding four more runs in the fourth. Misenheimer showed off his power once again with a lead off triple. Bryant scored two runs off Moses Lake errors, Kelly added an RBI single and Jeffery Hastings drove in a runner with a sacrifice bunt.

Despite Bryant adding to their lead, Cerrillo was solid in relief allowing one earned run in two innings of work.

Moses Lake was unable to take advantage of its three hits and often squandered scoring opportunities with base running errors.

The team will look to rebound Monday against Baxter Springs, Kan. at 8 p.m.

“Now we’re veterans, now we’ve played a game in a World Series and I really believe that the team you will see show up tomorrow will be a distinctly different Moses Lake team than what played tonight,” Doumit said.
