Palmer Fredrick "Fred" LaVoie, 87, passed away August 3, 2013. Palmer was born August 22, 1925, in Coeur d'Alene and spent his life in his home town. The only child of Henry and Rowena LaVoie, he never married and lived within a few blocks of his several aunts and uncles and cousin Don LaVoie. Palmer lived in the family home and was preceded in death by his parents. Also proceeding Palmer were uncles Ted LaVoie and Bill LaVoie and his aunts, Mae Wood, Cora Keller and Louise Billadeau. His cousins, Sister Anita Brotherton and Don LaVoie, also preceded him.

Many of Palmer’s friends will remember him from the Wilma Theater where he spent most of his adult career. Palmer loved cinema and the Wilma was his second home. He also acted as an "agent" for several aspiring actors. The Wilma was one of 31 theaters owned by Edna Wilma Simons. Palmer was a close friend of a trusted employee and was often a "consultant" visiting the home office in Missoula.

Palmer had no children, but was almost always seen with his Boston terrier who went everywhere with him. Palmer's favorite dog was Beau, who passed away a few years ago and could never be replaced in Palmer's eyes.

Palmer is survived by his nieces, Sandy LaVoie Macdonald and Brenda LaVoie Phillips. Also surviving is Marion "Punky" Wood. Palmer will be fondly remembered by his close friend Mike Whallon and his family; Mike's brother Bob, who worked with Palmer at the Wilma Theater; and Nancy Carbury, who often worked for Palmer in recent years.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at English Funeral Chapel, 1133 North Fourth St. in Coeur d'Alene. Palmer will be laid to rest at Forest Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Kootenai Humane Society at PO Box 1005, Hayden, ID 83835.
