Virginia Mae Teeter, 92, of Hayden Lake, died Aug. 16, 2013. She was born Nov. 13, 1920, in Hutchinson, Kan., to Charles E. and Ada Mae (West) Bogart.
She graduated from Hutchinson High School and Hutchinson Junior College. Virginia held jobs in a doctor’s office and a telephone company. She married Virgil L. Teeter Jr. on June 11, 1943, in Miami, Fla., where he was stationed at the time in the Marine Air Corps during World War II. When Virgil was sent to the South Pacific, Virginia returned to Hutchinson and worked in a bank. In 1944 they were stationed in Jacksonville, Fla., until the end of the war in 1945. They returned to Kansas and bought into a lumber yard in Geneseo, Kan. After the birth of their son, Bill, and after he started school, Virginia worked part time at the lumber yard and hardware store.
After 15 years in Geneseo they moved to Haven, Kan., where Virgil was in banking and insurance, and Virginia worked as the church secretary for Haven United Methodist Church. In 1975 they retired and moved to Hayden Lake.
She was active in the United Methodist Church in Haven and Coeur d’Alene, and in the United Methodist Women where she was president in both churches and held other offices. She was active in Colonial Dames, 17thCentury, Rambling Rovers, VFW Auxiliary in Kansas, Hayden Niners Golf Group and Kootenai County Genealogical Society. She also volunteered at Kootenai Medical Center for 20 years in the gift shop and was chairman of the Hospitality Committee.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; their son, William and her brother, Richard C. Bogart.
She is survived by a sister, Charlene Bouma of Hilton Head, S.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Wesley C. and Jean Bogart of Edmonds, Wash.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Dolores Teeter of Hayden Lake; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel, with burial following at Riverview Cemetery.
