On Aug. 19, 2013, Mary Margaret (O’Malley) Dougall passed away at Hospice of Spokane after her long valiant battle with breast cancer. Mary was born on Feb. 13, 1951, in Cherry Point, N.C., and lived in Havelock, N.C.; Quantico, Va.; Santa Ana and Truckee, Calif.; Hayden Lake and Coeur d’Alene; Anchorage, Alaska; and Liberty Lake, Wash. Mary loved life and was happiest when helping others. She felt blessed by her association with so many wonderful people that were such an important part of her journey.
After dating for seven years, Mary married the love of her life, Rod Dougall, on Nov. 9, 1974, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene. In 1975 Mary and Rod moved to Anchorage and worked more than 35 years in the oil industry. They returned to the beautiful northwest in 1989 but continued to commute to work in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.
Mary is survived by her wonderful husband, Rod of Liberty Lake; sister Maureen Edgar (husband Robert) of Richland, Wash.; sister Kathy Roberts and brother Chuck O’Malley III of Liberty Lake; brother Patrick O’Malley (wife Katya) of Orlando, Fla.; mother-in-law Maxine Dougall of Post Falls; brothers-in-law, Randy (wife Say Say) of Reno, Nev., Scott and Todd Dougall of Post Falls; nieces, Kathy Taylor, Katie O’Malley, Tammy Dougall and Shannon Craig; and nephews, Bret Roberts, Paul and Tom Taylor, C.J. O’Malley IV, Conor O’Malley and Shawn Dougall.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Chuck and Margaret O’Malley; and cherished niece, Kara Roberts.
Mary wanted to thank Dr. Joni Nichols and Dr. Christopher Lee along with the staff of Cancer Care Northwest for their wonderful care and many kindnesses. She would want to thank all the staff of Hospice of Spokane who helped at such a critical time.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 919 E. Indiana Ave., Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel has been entrusted to handle final arrangements. Please visit Mary’s online memorial at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.
