Les Hall, 64
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 11 years, 8 months AGO
Les Hall, of Mesa, Ariz., passed away peacefully on Aug. 23, 2013, after a three-year battle with cancer. Les was born on May 4, 1949, in Wenatchee, Wash., to Jesse Hall and Kathleen Smothers Hall Lynch. He spent the majority of his childhood in Sunnyside, Wash., and graduated from Sunnyside High School in 1967. He and his wife Diane Dobbs were wed for 45 years.
Les received his bachelor’s degree from Central Washington University and went on to teach in the Zillah and Yakima school districts for the next 20 years. He loved his years as a teacher and coach. During that time he was active in the Washington Education Association. Diane and he then moved to Boise where he worked for the Idaho Education Association as a Regional Director. Later he transferred to Coeur d’Alene. Les was a big proponent of using collaboration to improve education through teachers, principals and superintendents. He had a large impact on all who worked with him in this endeavor. His wonderful sense of humor helped make everything he did more fun. He was also very passionate about politics and loved debating with his family members. But he always said his biggest accomplishment in life was raising his two boys to be wonderful men and fathers.
Les is survived by wife Diane and their sons, Rich of Damascus, Ore., and Ryan of Seattle; as well as his wonderful daughters-in-law, Debbie and Mary. His three grandsons, Devin, Noah and Adam were the delight of his life. He is also survived by his father, Jesse Hall (and Ruth) of Grandview, Wash.; and his mother, Kathleen (and Ron) Lynch of Kennewick, Wash. He will be missed by his sisters, Pattie Andring-Carter (and David) of Pasco, Wash., and Cindy Rasmusson of Grandview; and his brothers, Dan (and Shelby) Hall of Grandview and Tim Hall of Richland, Wash. Plus numerous nieces and nephews whose lives he impacted in many ways. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Paul, Barbara and Glenda, all of Sunnyside.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, 7800 Van Belle Road, Sunnyside. A celebration of his life will follow immediately at Snipes Mountain Brewery, 905 Yakima Valley Highway, also in Sunnyside. At Les’ request, bright and happy clothes are encouraged.
