Wastewater permit hearing, workshop Wednesday in Cd'A

COEUR d'ALENE - The public on Wednesday is invited to comment on the three draft wastewater discharge permits that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently proposed for sewage treatment plants discharging pollutants to the Spokane River in Kootenai County.

The treatment plants are operated by the city of Coeur d'Alene, the city of Post Falls and the Hayden Area Regional Sewer Board.

The workshop, where EPA staff will give a brief presentation about the permits and answer questions, will be held from 2-4 p.m. in the Community Room on the lower level of the Coeur d'Alene Public Library, 702 E. Front Ave.

The public hearing will be held from 5-7:30 p.m.

The proposed new permits will reduce the amount of phosphorus each facility can discharge to the Spokane River.

The EPA will respond to all comments submitted in writing on or before the end of the public comment period as well as comments provided at the public hearing.

The comment period closes on Sept. 3.
