I would like to comment on a recent article in which the title architect was used to describe a person who is not a licensed architect.

While it may appear insignificant to some, it is no small feat to obtain a license to practice architecture in Montana.

You cannot use the word ‘architect’ until you have fulfilled the educational requirements of five or six years at an accredited college, an internship period of two to three years and then pass a difficult exam, all taking up to nine years of your life and large amounts of time and money.

Some have implied licensure by using the word architect or words, letters, or derivations of the word, etc. in advertising, phone and website listings, intending to imply licensure. Montana codes; 37-65-301 gives a clear definition of the use of the term ‘architect’.
