Dog park seeks funding for new pond

The Whitefish Animal Group (WAG), in conjunction with the City of Whitefish, is currently in the process developing a wonderful new water feature for dogs at The Hugh Rogers WAG Park.
In conjunction with the work to begin next Summer on East 2nd we plan to dredge out the pond to two times its current size. Some of you may have noticed the drawing on the pond fence.
This project will involve new fencing around the expanded pond, an aeration system, bringing in large landscaping rock and other landscaping to provide additional plants, bushes, grassy areas, etc. The majority of the costs involved will be the responsibility of WAG.
Consequently, very shortly we will be sending a letter to all WAG supporters on our mailing list to support what has become the most used park in the valley. The purpose of this letter is to appeal to all dog lovers who may not be on our mailing list to contribute as well. Time is of the essence as we need to raise in excess of $50,000 between now and when the work begins.
I think most everyone agrees that the Hugh Rogers Wag Park has been a major addition to the city park system since its opening in June fo 2009. The park is open 365 days a year, and in 2012 received an estimated 30,000 visits; people of all ages and abilities, with and without dogs.
The park serves as a center for exercise, socialization, and the promotion of responsible dog ownership. It also attracts visitors from neighboring communities and visiting dog owners from all over North America.
Our Wag Park provides a hosting ground for community events such as the annual Wag Race and picnic in August. The race drew over 500 entrants, spectators and volunteers this year and the picnic drew more than 300 dog owners and others.
