Mueller scores another hat trick for Post Falls

MOSCOW - Timmy Mueller recorded his second hat trick in as many games, leading the Post Falls Trojans past the Moscow Bears 3-1 in a nonleague match Tuesday at Moscow Junior High.

"We fixed some of our issues in our midfield at the half and were able to get Timmy the ball a little more consistently and he was able to put them away," Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson said. "We've got to be able to get him the ball in dangerous situations and were able to do that a little better in the second half."

Noah Gondo had seven saves for Post Falls (2-0), which travels to Northwest Christian on Sept. 6.

Lakeland 0

COEUR d'ALENE - Matt Hulquist received the ball from 40 yards out and beat a Lakeland defender for the opening goal three minutes into a nonleague boys soccer match, leading the Vikings past the visiting Hawks.

"I felt we played pretty well," Coeur d'Alene coach Jeff Lake said. "Especially with our possession and maintaining the ball. But we need to be a lot more clinical in our finishing in the final third of the game."

Braden Ridgewell scored on an assist from Devin Kohles in the second half for Coeur d'Alene (1-0-1), which hosts Lakeland again next Tuesday.

Cade Coffey had 11 saves for Lakeland (0-2), which travels to Lewiston on Thursday.

"Cade played huge on defense for them the entire game," Lake said.

Lakeland coach Andrew Craig said his team came out flat in the first half, before picking it up in the second.

"Cd'A came out very strong," Craig said. "They were great on the ball. We played a much better second half."

POST FALLS - Erica Simpson scored goals in the 27th and 39th minute to lead the Trojans past the Bears in a nonleague match.

"We were able to come together as a team and knocked a couple in early on and held them to a scoreless game," Post Falls coach Briggs Anderson said. "It's what we'll need to do throughout the season."

Sam Runkle had eight saves for Post Falls (2-0), which hosts Moses Lake Sept. 7.

SPIRIT LAKE - Taylor Petersen recorded a hat trick, including two second half goals to lead the Wildcats past the Tigers in the Intermountain League opener for both schools at Van Tuinstra Memorial Stadium.

"I was impressed with the girls," Timberlake coach Steve Michael said. "We had two subs the entire game and had a lot of young players that grew up quickly today. It gave us a good direction of where we need to improve our game."

Courtney Sutton had 10 saves for Timberlake, which travels to Priest River on Thursday.

Sarah McDonald had seven saves for Kellogg, which travels to the Lake City JV on Thursday.

PRIEST RIVER - Katie Baxter assisted Abby Bartlett on a bending corner kick and scored a goal late in the second half, leading the Panthers past the Spartans in the Intermountain League opener for both schools.

"Priest River has improved dramatically since last season," Coeur d'Alene Charter coach Dave Baxter said. "They showed a lot of character trying to make it a game, but we were able to bounce right back."

Jackie Jensen had nine saves for Coeur d'Alene Charter, which hosts Orofino today at the United Community Methodist Field at 4 p.m.

Alyssa Carey scored two goals for Priest River, which hosts Timberlake Thursday.
