Seattle hands Chiefs third loss in three days

SPOKANE - The lost weekend for the Spokane Chiefs concluded Sunday with a 5-1 loss to the Seattle Thunderbirds in Western Hockey League play before 4,419 at the Spokane Arena.
Spokane dropped three games in three days over the weekend, and is now 17-10-0-2 after an 11-3 start.
Seattle built a 5-0 lead before Riley Whittingham scored the Chiefs' lone goal for the second straight night, netting his sixth of the season at the 11:27 mark of the third period.
Spokane's Mitch Holmberg, the team's leading scorer, was held scoreless for the second straight game - marking only the fourth time in 29 games he has gone without a point.
Branden Troock and Mathew Barzal each had a goal and an assist for Seattle, which broke the game open with three goals in the first 11 minutes of the third period.
Seattle was 3 for 6 on the power play; Spokane was 1 for 13 on the power play in the three losses.
Spokane, eight points behind first-place Everett and tied for third with Seattle in the U.S. Division, plays host to Saskatoon on Wednesday.
