LAS VEGAS - The North Idaho College wrestling team, ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA, had pins in five of 10 weight classes to beat the Western Wyoming Community College Mustangs of Rock Springs 45-3 on Thursday night at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
"I thought we wrestled pretty well," NIC coach Pat Whitcomb said. "The guys came out, wrestled hard and it was a good warmup going into the tournament."
Jared Miller (125 pounds), Carlos Lozoya (133), Terrance McKinney (141), V.J. Giulio (197) and Taylor Kornoely (285) each won by pin for NIC (5-1), which competes in the Cliff Keen Invitational today and Saturday in Las Vegas. NIC and Western Wyoming are the only two-year schools in the tourney, competing against four-year schools.
"Even with Johnathon's (Dennis) loss, he wrestled tough," Whitcomb said. "He was starting to catch him at the end of the match. I was really happy with all the guys. It was a good all-around team effort."
