The Columbia Falls Night of Lights, an annual city-sanctioned celebration, has been canceled this year because of extremely cold weather.
Columbia Falls city manager Susan Nicosia said she met with the fire and police chiefs Friday morning, Dec. 6, and agreed to cancel the parade.
Cindy Shaw, who organizes the craft fair at the Teakettle Community Room on Nucleus Avenue, told the city she had canceled that event, too.
The annual craft and bake fair at the North Valley Seniors Center, 205 Nucleus Avenue, has not been canceled.
The fundraiser for the senior center will run from noon to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6. A soup supper with three types of soup will be offered from 4 to 8 p.m. A bowl of soup and a roll is $3, and brats and polish dogs are $3 apiece. A variety of desserts will also be offered.
The Columbia Falls Area Chamber of Commerce reports that the lighting of the Children’s Holiday Village in Marantette will still take place and the Rotary Club’s Brunch with Santa will still take place at Timber Creek Village on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
