COEUR d'ALENE - The 37th running of the Hangover Handicap is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on New Year's Day.

The five-mile run starts behind Michael D's Eatery. It's an out-and-back course along the Centennial Trail on Coeur d'Alene Lake Drive.

Generally, 500 runners and walkers participate, including serious runners, "joggers," participants with dogs on leashes or children in strollers, and some in colorful costumes.

Before and after the run, fruit, energy bars, water and coffee will be provided in a heated tent.

There will be plenty of time after the race to take part in the polar bear plunge.

Online registration is at www.teshinc.com or participants can pick up registration forms at Tesh at 3327 W. Industrial Loop, or at Fleet Feet Sports or multiple exercise clubs in Coeur d'Alene.

Early-bird registration ends at noon at Dec. 20. The cost is $22 and includes a long-sleeve shirt. Race-day registration is $25, and includes the shirt. No-shirt registration is $15.

Race-day registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 9:20 a.m.

All proceeds benefit Tesh Inc., a nonprofit whose core purpose is to offer choices and opportunities to children and adults with disabilities seeking greater independence, self-sufficiency, and participation in their community.
