PAPPAS: He's in too deep
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 11 years, 1 month AGO
Regarding the My Turn column by Jimmy Pappas on Nov. 27, I can only assume that Jimmy has finally gone ‘round the bend. He has the unbelievable gall to refer to Doug Miller’s excellent column as “scathing” only to follow that with one of the most scathing pieces I’ve ever had the misfortune to read. The venom and hatred of the Republican Party filling his column is unsurpassed by anything I’ve ever seen. (In fact, they almost match my opinion of his party.)
But let’s pass the near diabolical antipathy and note some specifics. He attempts to portray conservatives as raging against the poor. Not so. I will match my contributions to the poor, as slim as they have to be, against any liberal. But we are just two individuals and hardly a representative sample. We do not rage against the poor, only those pretending to be poor or treated as such by our benevolent government in order to “buy” their votes. He claims we reward the rich undeservedly but I see no details, just rant.
My major objection to his position is his almost sacrilegious references to the religious elements of the party positions. His party is the party of abortion, of homosexual marriage, of deleting God from any and all appearances anywhere and yet he accuses Republicans of non-Christian positions. If that isn’t hypocrisy I must wonder what he thinks it is. Yet he refers to the “Holy Bible” ignoring his party’s constant trampling of it. He holds up Obama and Biden as examples of Christians (how did he miss Pelosi?). Pardon my laughter.
His references to Obamacare are nothing if not laughable. Is he not aware that more than 60 percent of the population disapprove of it? It is nothing short of a colossal blunder. And his recent deal with Iran alone should merit him a ride out of town on a rail.
The distortions in his column are so obviously nothing but a representation of his hatred that they are not worth addressing.
