COEUR d'ALENE - Kootenai County Fire and Rescue responded to a house fire in Cougar Gulch Monday afternoon.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated and Chief Warren Merritt told The Press Monday that the home sustained more than $20,000 in damage.
"We still don't know if the fire was electrical or caused by the woodstove," Merritt said.
The three occupants of the home were able to escape unharmed prior to the arrival of firefighters, and they have a place to stay, Merritt said. No injuries were reported.
"One thing we are trying to figure out is if there was a working smoke detector in the home," Merritt said. "Residents should always make sure they have a working smoke detector on every level of their home."
Personnel from the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department and Mica Kidd Island Fire District also responded to the structure fire.
