Kalispell police are investigating a report of sexual assault at Edgerton Elementary School.

The father of a 6-year-old boy contacted police on Saturday to report his son had been sexually assaulted, allegedly involving the boy and another 6-year-old inappropriately touching one another, according to Kalispell Police Department Patrol Captain Tim Falkner.

Falkner said another child was present during the incident, but the touching only appeared to have occurred between two of the children.

The complaint has been turned over to detectives.

The alleged assault was incorrectly reported by KPAX-TV to have occurred at Elrod Elementary School.

In response, the Elrod School administrator sent students home with notes refuting the story.

“There was misinformation that our local media presented last night and this morning during their news presentations,” the note read. “No sexual assault occurred on our campus. I will always communicate to our families with any concerns regarding safety issues at Elrod.”

The note encouraged people to contact Elrod Principal Glenda Armstrong with any further questions.

A message left for Edgerton Principal Merisa Murray was not returned as of Wednesday evening.
