A high-speed chase Wednesday resulted in the arrest of a suspect in shooting incidents over the weekend in Lake County.

A drive-by shooting Saturday in Pablo ignited a feud that led to another shooting on Sunday.

While several suspects were arrested in the second incident, police and the Lake County Drug Task Force were still looking Wednesday for the gunman in Saturday’s shooting. Luis M. Denobrega, 24, eventually was arrested Wednesday afternoon after a car chase from St. Ignatius to Pablo.

Lake County Undersheriff Dan Yonkin said the first shooting occurred around 9:20 p.m. Saturday when shots were fired from a vehicle at a house in Pablo. Another barrage of bullets hit a separate occupied home in Pablo around 3:40 p.m. Sunday.

Yonkin said no one was injured in either incident, and three people were taken into custody for the retaliation on Sunday.

Flathead Tribal Police Chief Craige Couture said eyewitnesses placed Denobrega at the scene of Saturday’s crime. Task force officers had been watching Denobrega for several months and knew his regular movements. Couture said Denobrega fled Washington state where he is wanted for assault with a deadly weapon.

“Officers knew who he was,” Couture said. “This is a guy who is not a very nice person to have on our streets.”

Couture said an officer followed the man Monday, but Denobrega was able to elude capture.

Police had been informed the man would be passing through Lake County on Wednesday and stationed an officer in Arlee. The officer tried unsuccessfully to get Denobrega to pull over.

He sped off, leading authorities from tribal police, Montana Highway Patrol, the Ronan Police Department and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office on a chase at 85 mph over an icy U.S. 93.

Authorities laid out spike strips to stop Denobrega from traveling north on the highway.

Denobrega was able to evade the spike strips at Post Creek Hill, but according to radio traffic, authorities thought one of the man's tires was hit with the strips.

The chase came to a close on Foothills Road just past North Crow Road between Pablo and Ronan when Denobrega crashed into a ditch and was arrested by Flathead Tribal Police officers. He was booked into the Lake County Jail in Polson for his out-of-state warrant.

Denobrega is being charged with attempted deliberate homicide and felony criminal endangerment for the week’s incidents, as well as felony charges from Spokane.

Officers found methamphetamine, prescription drugs, scales and a bag full of firearms in the car, Couture said.

Three other people have been arrested in connection with the weekend’s shootings.

Authorities are charging Victor Barnaby, 18, and Francis Burke Jr., 20, with conspiracy to commit deliberate homicide and possession of dangerous drugs, both felonies.

Jonathan Drennen-Beck, 19, is charged with attempted deliberate homicide and possession of dangerous drugs, both felonies.

Yonkin and Couture both said the two shootings are still under investigation and more information will be released as the case evolves.
