MOSES LAKE - Members of the Unchained Brotherhood will be collecting donations of money and toys for the club's toy drive from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot at Penhallurick's True Value Hardware, 711C N. Stratford Rd.

The donated toys, and the toys purchased with the donated money, are in turn donated to the Moses Lake Food Bank for their distribution Dec. 21, club secretary Chris Brokke said.

The club is asking for new toys, he said. Any donations should be unwrapped. All money that's donated goes toward buying toys, he said.

"We've been doing this for nine years," Brokke said. Club members spend the first two Saturdays in December collecting toys and monetary donations, he said.

"We'll be on all four corners," of the parking lot Saturday, Brokke said. The first Saturday fell short of what they've usually collected, he said, probably because of the very cold weather. It was 2 degrees when club members set up shop last Saturday. Club members are looking to make up some of the lost ground this Saturday.

Santa will be on hand for pictures with kids, Brokke said, and club members will serve coffee and cookies.

"We want to take care of the children in our community," Brokke said. Unchained Brotherhood members look at it as a way to give back, he said.

Unchained Brotherhood members have struggled with substance abuse and addiction in the past, and in the process they've taken from family members and their communities, Pat Massey, club chaplain, said in an earlier interview. The club is a chance to make up for some of that, he said.

The club will accept monetary donations for the toy drive through next Thursday or Friday, Brokke said. Donations should be marked for the toy drive and can be mailed to 803 Hawthorne St., Moses Lake, 98837.
