Santa ready to ride with firefighters

Santa will cruise through Coeur d’Alene’s neighborhoods this week, and once again, his sleigh will be a big, red fire engine.

For five nights, beginning Thursday, Santa will join members of Coeur d’Alene Firefighters Local 710 to travel around town collecting food and cash donations for the food bank.

Residents who see flashing red lights and hear Christmas music, should head out to the street with their donations. The kids can say hello to Santa and the firefighters, and get a candy cane.

Firefighter Jake Bieker says some big improvements have been made to the “sleigh” this year.

The number of lights has been doubled to 8,000.

“The lights are run by controllers and dance to the Christmas music played by the fire engine,” Bieker told The Press. “We also have a Santa tracker which allows people to track Santa’s location and know where to find him or know when he is getting closer to their house.”
