Stumptown Art Studio is ringing in the new year with more art opportunities.
The Whitefish nonprofit’s winter session offers classes for artists of all ages. The session runs from Jan. 6 through March 28.
Stumptown Art Academy for preschool children ages 3 to 5 will take place Mondays and/or Wednesdays. This program focuses on art-based education with an integrated core curriculum approach. Every month a different artist will be studied through art, math, science, social studies and language arts.
Art en Español may be scheduled for groups with instructor Kate Hunter.
Mondays continue to be muddy with clay classes.
Spin! Spin! Spin! with resident potter Stephanie Seguin is scheduled for January and February, then Stumptown Art Studio will continue with creative hand-building techniques in March.
Art Exploration for children ages 3 to 5 is from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Tuesdays. Then, after school, artists ages 5 to 8 can join Art with the Masters to learn about a famous artist and create work inspired by his style.
Wednesday is the After School Arts and Crafts Club for ages 9 to 13. For a $5 drop-in fee, young artists can create an art activity in one hour.
Parent-Toddler Art Time is from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays. Then, after school on Thursdays, guest artist Andrea Brew will teach the Power of Paint for ages 8 to 11. She will be instructing three different sessions this winter, including, Winter Watercolors,” “Acrylics with Form” and “Colorful Constructions in Acrylic.”
A new monthly painting session for ages 7 to 12 will take place the first Friday of each month. Patterned after the popular adult class Canvas and Cocktails, youths will get to enjoy an evening of painting and snacking with friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Canvas and Cookies. The first session will take place Jan. 10, and the art subject is Laurel Burch cats.
Adults can explore new ways to be creative or expand their skills with a wide selection of workshops to choose from.
Classes include glass fusing, Mixed Media Mondays, precious metal clay workshops, Canvas and Cocktails, private clay lessons, Wild Women Wednesdays and the Cultural and Art History Club. For complete class descriptions, visit the website below.
Stumptown Art Studio’s public art project, Windows On Whitefish, continues with a series of mosaic-making workshops taught by project artistic director Deb Stika.
In the ongoing mosaic classes, students will learn the skills of mosaic making and create a mosaic of their own. Students then may attend free community sessions to work on the actual 6- by 9-foot mosaic panel — the third of four — which depicts the fall season. A complete Windows on Whitefish schedule will be posted on the website after the first of the year.
Winter hours at Stumptown Art Studio and the Ceramics Annex are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. Additional hours are during all classes, special events and pre-arranged after-hours parties.
