PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Lake City routs Moscow

COEUR d'ALENE - Whitney Meier scored 15 points and Clarissa Smith added 12 points, 10 rebounds and six steals as the Lake City Timberwolves routed the Moscow Bears 56-35 in nonleague play Tuesday night.

Dakota Wilson had four assists for Lake City (5-2), which jumped out to a 36-13 halftime lead.

"We came out and really played hard the first half. We pressured the ball and got some turnovers, got some easy buckets and got us rollling," Lake City coach Bryan Kelly said. "I thought Natalie Wheelock did a great job controlling the tempo, and Clarissa Smith had a great game."

Jada Simpson scored 17 points for Moscow (0-10).

Lake City plays host to Clarkston on Friday.

POST FALLS - Olivia Ellison scored 14 points for the host Trojans, who nearly erased a 22-point deficit in the nonleague loss at The Arena.

"We were down 29-7 at one point; we couldn't hit any shots," Post Falls coach Marc Allert said."We switched up defense and that helped; the kids battled back to within one (in the fourth quarter). I was proud of them the way they came back."

Post Collette Gall scored 18 points for Hanford.

Post Falls plays at West Valley tonight at 7:30.

SPOKANE - Elle Burland scored 13 points to lead the Knights past the Hawks in a nonleague game.

Kelly Ramus had five points and five rebounds for Lakeland (3-8), which hosts Post Falls in the annual Prairie Pig spirit game on Friday in Rathdrum.

"I was pleased with our effort," Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. "We were up against a good team and we didn't stop battling. We might need to learn how to battle a little more smartly, but they kept working hard."

Alex Rankin scored 10 points for East Valley.

SANDPOINT - Hailey Olin tallied 17 points, five rebounds and five assists to lead the Bulldogs past the Tigers in nonleague play at Les Rogers Court.

Olin was 3 of 5 from beyond the arc for Sandpoint (5-5). Madi Schoening added 12 points and 10 assists.

"The Schoening girl and the Olin girl had great games, we couldn't slow them down and make someone else beat us," Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. "I'm happy with our effort, but we didn't execute as well as I'd like."

Allison Kirby had 10 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds for Timberlake (5-3). Jessica Norlander made 7 of 13 shots from the field for 17 points. Freshman Keelie Lawler was a factor with nine points before leaving early in the second half with a knee injury.

Timberlake plays host to East Valley on Friday.

ST. MARIES - Kelsey Auer had nine points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots to lead the Lumberjacks past the Panthers in the 2A Central Idaho League opener for both schools.

"It was a good win for us," St. Maries coach Jay Sines said. "It was a kind of a rough game, but a good one. It's always good to win your first league game and it was a good effort from all the players. Coeur d'Alene Charter played pretty scrappy and both (Anna) Verhaeghe and (Jackie) Jensen played well defensively."

Kerstin Auer had seven points and 10 rebounds for St. Maries (2-4), which travels to Grangeville on Saturday.

Sarah Haman scored 10 points for Coeur d'Alene Charter (4-4), which hosts Grangeville at Holy Family Catholic School on Jan. 4.

PLUMMER - Lakeside 5-foot guard Francine Hendrickx attempted a shot from nearly halfcourt that would have won the nonleague game at the buzzer, but the ball hit the backboard and bounced off the rim and out at the buzzer.

Knights senior Avery Brown-Sonder finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds for Lakeside (5-4). Hendrickx finished with six points and nine rebounds against Kellogg (5-3).
