BELLEVUE - Sophomore guard Brendan Westendorf continues to rewrite the Big Bend Community College (BBCC) record books, this time erasing his own name.

Against Shoreline in the second game of the Bellevue Tournament over the weekend, Westendorf broke his own scoring record dropping a remarkable 55 points, nine rebounds, six assists, five steals and two blocks in a 160-99 rout.

The most astounding number of Westendorf's line might be 28, the number of minutes he played.

"It'd have been scary if he had played another 12 minutes," head coach Mark Poth said.

Four of the Runnin' Vikes' starters scored in double figures against the Dolphins with freshman forward Sean McDonnell adding 27 points and sophomore guard Kevin Walker tallying 19 points.

"When we get rolling and shooting well we can be pretty dangerous," Poth said.

Big Bend did suffer its first loss of the year after dropping its first round matchup to Highline, 78-75. The team is now 7-1 in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC).

Westendorf struggled to find his shot and finished with only 15 points. BBCC only shot 37.3 percent for the game.

"It was probably our worst shooting game of the year," Poth said. "Just didn't shoot well, didn't defend the penetration as effectively as we needed to so, you know, we just didn't have a great game."

The Runnin' Vikes bounced back with a blowout win against Shoreline and a 78-68 victory over Bellevue. Against Bellevue Westendorf exploded for 40 points, six rebounds and four assists.

"He struggled the first game but bounced back and had two just unbelievable games for us," Poth said. "Against Bellevue we really needed it... he was carrying us offensively. He scored half our points."

Walker added 12 points and three rebounds in the win.

Big Bend will travel to Everett for the NWAACC Crossover Tournament loaded with premier teams. The Runnin' Vikes will face Clark, who is 4-1, in the first round and either defending NWAACC champion Chemeketa or Whatcom in the second round.

However, Poth believes his team can compete with anyone.

"I would say right now just judging on what I've seen and the teams we've played that we feel like we're as competitive as anybody in the NWAAC," he said. "There's some good solid teams this year."
