The National Weather Service in Missoula warns travelers that snowstorms will impact the northern Rockies this weekend. The biggest impacts will be in Idaho, but snowfall is anticipated in western Montana as well.

Lookout, Lolo and Lost Trail passes will see the biggest impacts, with a very heavy snow event in Idaho spilling over onto the passes. The passes will likely see 10 inches of snow or more on Friday afternoon through Saturday morning.

The Columbia Falls and Glacier National Park area could see 5 to 7 inches of snow, with higher amounts in the mountains and about 8 inches at Marias Pass. The Flathead and Mission valleys could receive 1 to 4 inches of snow, causing difficult travel Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service expects a break in the weather on Saturday afternoon followed by another, weaker series of systems causing periods of light snow through Tuesday. For more information, visit online at www.weather.gov/missoula.
