MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake girls bowling took care of business at home against West Valley (Yakima) with a solid 3-1 victory.

The Chiefs improved to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in the Columbia Basin Big 9.

Head coach Billy Brice said the team came out confident in the first game and took an early lead over the Rams with a 842-732 win. Junior Mikayla Moreno racked up 194 pins to lead the team.

"She really didn't miss the pocket at all and she realy had solid work," Brice said.

Junior Ashleigh Hash and sophomore Kim Mulder totalled 163 pins and 175 pins, respectively.

Against West Valley (Yakima) the Chiefs were without their full compliment of bowlers as senior Kayla Enriquez was sick. Junior Liz Busherd took her place in the first game and responded with a score of 163.

"I was very impressed with what she did," Brice said. "She really stepped up and delivered."

Moses Lake took a slight step back in game two but still won handily, 816-742. Hash was the high scorer with 189 pins followed by Mulder with 171.

Freshman Rebecca Benavidez was called up to bowl in the second game and contributed a solid score of 146.

"I think our confidence was a little low," Brice said. "I think our intensity was up and down."

The Chiefs lost the first Baker game 192-172, but rebounded to close out the match with a 180-133 win in the second Baker game.

Moses Lake now sets its sights on Wenatchee, the only team the Chiefs have lost to all season. Brice stressed that every pin counts because if the Chiefs and Panthers are tied in the standings that will determine postseason seeding.

"All in all halfway through the season I'm very pleased with the girls," he said.

Thursday's match is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. at Lake Bowl.
