SPOKANE VALLEY - A wanted 28-year-old Spirit Lake man was arrested on felony charges of eluding and residential burglary in Spokane Valley early Friday after he reportedly barricaded himself inside a home.
Jeremy Shane Brown allegedly barricaded himself inside a home near the 7900 block of East Harrington after kicking in the front door.
Just before midnight, a deputy attempted to stop Brown near University and Valleyway after receiving a report of a possible DUI, according to the Spokane County Sheriff's Office.
"After a short pursuit, Brown ran from his running vehicle in the parking lot of the industrial park near Sprague and Vista," a press release states. "Brown jumped a fence and kicked in the front door of a residence."
The male homeowner, who was contacted outside the residence by a deputy, said Brown had a gun and no other people were inside the home, according to the sheriff's report.
Deputies surrounded the home and tried to get Brown to come outside. Since Brown allegedly refused to cooperate and was possibly armed, the Spokane County SWAT Team, hostage negotiators and a bomb squad responded.
The bomb squad entered the home using a robot to speak to Brown, according to the sheriff's report. Brown allegedly refused commands to exit the home, which resulted in the SWAT team shooting gas into the residence.
Brown still refused to exit, so a K-9 was released into the home, the report states. Shortly after the K-9 entered, Brown jumped out a bedroom window where deputies were waiting.
Brown was then arrested without incident.
A gun was found in the bathroom of the home.
Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
Brown has a local criminal history dating back to 1996. He was wanted on a felony Idaho Department of Correction warrant for parole violation.
Brown previously spent time in prison for possession of a controlled substance in Kootenai County and for aggravated battery in Ada County.
